She Said

At the first she said
“Long before I’m dead
I’d like someday to be wed
with a man who is led
to earn daily bread
by rightly using his head”.

“A man” she pled
“not laying still in bed
nor yet dead.
With a book to be read”
that she might be fed
in her soul instead.

“With blonde hair or red;
sure steps in his tread;
crimson to flow if he’s bled.
Words of love truly said.
In his soul a single thread
from the one to whom he fled
Jesus Christ our daily bread.
By such a man let me be led”.
