Somebody Did It

Somebody did it. There was an event, an occurrence, a resulting outcome and someone was the cause. For everything which happens in our universe, every event whether unbelievably huge or infinitesimally small, there is a cause; except one. The Bible declares that “in the beginning God”. Without apology, excuse, explanation or contemplation, the first verse in the oldest and truest book announces “in the beginning God”. He is the uncaused cause. He is ultimately the cause of all that is. In His creation, He has caused certain boundaries to be in place. We call them laws and even laws of nature. They are the delimiters for all that is in existence. They define what is observed of cause and effect. We know them because we have observed them. We discover them by examining what is, as it has been caused by the creator. When we surmise correct conclusions from what we observe, it aligns nicely and rightly with all else which is observed. We find a peaceful harmony in the proper alignment of what we believe with what we observe and can prove by repetitive experimentation. When our observations conflict with what has been revealed previously then we understand that either our current or previous conclusions are in error; and sometimes both.

Somebody did it. Very often God, the creator, gets tossed into the ring as the source of an issue or situation which confronts us. It is said that He has made it so and it should not be otherwise. Others might have an understanding of the same event and declare surely we should not be so constrained. Our minds are adequate, even powerful and so we can choose our own path without regard to the God based bias of others. Somebody did it that way and somebody else desires to do it another way.  Often this leads to observations which by their determinate nature may proclaim one as acceptable and another unacceptable. Therein lies the rub. Who establishes the correctness of alternative opposition to previously established positions? Generally our self-importance allows us to attempt sovereign rule over our circumstances. When this happens we in essence become our own authority, establishing right and wrong, good and evil based upon our cumulative knowledge and experience. Indeed it is based, even built upon declared truths of some who have preceded us in life and often death. Some I say but not all, for not all have the same understandings.

Somebody did it. So who then, is the cause and who decides what the observation determines? One of my favorite saying is that it does not bother an infinite, all powerful, all knowing creator God even one little bit for His greatest creation to have choice. He has be His sovereign will and choice provided that within our mental spiritual make up we are able to choose. Our choices are based on observation, experience, intellectual understandings and influence. The greatest of these in my mind is influence. Influence indicates trust. The amount of trust I give to an individual or idea is based on how their determinations play out in real life, in my everyday living. I know a thing is bad when I am injured in some way by it and give credence and trust to those who have provided warnings. Likewise I know a thing as good when I am benefitted from it and give the same trust to those persons or ideas which promoted that in my understanding. When my trust is in someone or thing which aligns itself with the Creator of all things, then I am probably on safe ground to anticipate an outcome pleasing to my relationship with the Creator. On the other hand, having trust placed in some one or some thing which is diametrically opposed to the Creator’s plan and purpose will result in chaotic conflict.

For those who hold to the denial of an all-powerful, all knowing, ever present benevolent creator God, there is the moral question. What is their moral basis for any action, law, or premise? What makes a thing right or wrong? Who or what ultimately determines final judgment? In no particular order several alternatives logically present themselves.

I am my own ultimate authority. I determine what is right or wrong for me based upon the sum of my knowledge and experience.

The Government is the ultimate authority. I will adhere to whatever the current government of my nation determines is right or wrong based upon the dictates of their processes.

Some well thought out philosophical compendium is the ultimate authority. I accept that a myriad of influences have driven rational thought to this conclusion and it is what I will follow.

Somebody did it. Aliens have planted us here as an experiment and … Enough! In each of these scenarios there is one inescapable conclusion. Either the Creator God of the universe is right or you are. If you choose you, then there is no limit to the number of rationalizations and justifications you can invent to support your chosen life and the condemnations for those who oppose it for any reason. If you choose a Creator God then you must determine to know and obey Him for your existence to be both pleasurable and profitable. Toward that end we examine the writings of those who claim to know and reveal Him. The singular difference in all of the religions in the world is the concept of a savior, a risen savior. All religions give God-Rules. All religions give a path to immortality or eternal existence. All religions give condemnations to those who deny or stray. There is but one who claims that He has personally died from this life to pay the just penalty for those who rejected and sinned against Him. There is but one who claims to have been restored to life after being buried. There is but one who claims to have risen into Heaven and is expecting you to join Him.

Somebody did it. He is Jesus. In the Old Testament Scriptures He declared His name as YHWH (YaH-WeH). His name is more commonly pronounced Jehovah or Yah-Ho-Vah. He alone is God. He demanded an innocent blood sacrifice to appease His wrath for transgressions against Him. When none could be found acceptable, He presented Himself. He alone is perfect and worthy. He was born as a man child and died as the Lamb of God that takes away the sin of the world. He asks one thing for you to have a right relationship with Him forever. He asks that you believe. First that He is and then that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. In so doing you will understand and accept His free gift of salvation from sin and the wrath of His judgment. This will cause you to repent (turn away from) those ways which do not please Him. He wrote a book, the Bible, so you would know Him and how you might be pleasing in all your ways.

Somebody Did it. It is Jesus. He is the eternal Creator God of all we know and see and are and ever hope to be. He will not force us to love Him. He desires that we would choose Him of our own volition. He loves us without reservation and desires our love and worship. He desires you to choose Him. Somebody did it. Now it is your turn. Do it now.
