Christmas on the Radio

The shops were busy and the streets so cold,
As mom and I pushed along under our load.
Who would say how, it was to be all right,
And comfort our hearts late into the night.Old Time Radio

Daddy was gone and we had no place to stay.
It was cruel to imagine, living that way.
Life was hard, not knowing where to go.
When you can only find, Christmas on the radio.

The man at the kitchen, served soup with a smile.
It was good to just sit and rest for a while.
The lady said “Stay tonight and sleep on this cot.
I’ll wash your things. Is that all you’ve got?”

She turned on the music and kept it low,
Said “There’s something on here, you should know”.
The songs of joy and cheer seemed to flow.
We opened our ears to hear Christmas on the radio.

We heard about Jesus and His love.
It was the reason, He came from above.
And wondered if we, could see Him today.
Just like we heard, the radio lady say.

Under the blankets and warmed by what’s right,
Stories of Jesus, all through the Silent Night.
Decking the Halls and Mary Did You Know,
Mommy and I saw Christmas on the radio.

The song said it was, on a night like this one,
God had Mary birth, His only begotten Son.
And if I could believe, that He came for me,
Then I would live with Jesus, forever free.

Another sang that hurts and sorrows were the reason
He came as a child and is remembered this season.
And all through the night, safe from the snow,
We sang of Jesus and Christmas on the radio.
