Who Is Your Stand For

In First Kings chapter eighteen, Elijah challenges the Prophets of Ba’al to a test of faith. Remember James says Faith without works is Dead. The prophets of Ba’al had faith in the false god. They had a false faith, fake faith, failing faith, fruitless faith. Faith that produced no results, no changes for good in their lives, nothing by which they might offer praise and thanksgiving for deliverance and restoration. They prayed and thrashed about all day without results. Then Elijah instructed the acceptable sacrifice be prepared properly according to the word of the Lord. He obeyed God, he obeyed the Word of the Lord. Then He prayed. Read 1Kings 18:36-39 It is never wrong to stand for God. It is never wrong to be the man or woman of God He has designed you to be. It does not matter what the past has been what matters it today and when. When will you stand for Jesus? When will you get back in fellowship with God’s people? When will God the Father have complete sway over your soul?

The failures will never stop. The stumbling will never cease, the short comings will not fail to appear until we get home to glory. So when will they stop being the excuses you use for not living for Jesus? What is it that made Elijah stand for God THIS time? There were other days; Days when it didn’t go quite as well as this day. Remember the days when he hid out from Jezebel in the cave at Horeb? So what was the difference this day? Why could He stand? Why could he defy the enemies of the Almighty God of the universe? Why could he guide God’s people in doing what was right? Look back a chapter to 1 Kings 17. In verse 5 it says “So he went and did according unto the word of the LORD” How do you successfully meet with God’s people, putting your past behind you, ignoring the reminders Satan is hurling at you? How do you stand against the evil and the ones promoting evil? How do you stand against those doing what you have done?

In verse 5 it says “So he went and did according unto the word of the LORD”. We just read in 1Kings 18:36 that Elijah “did all these things at Your word”. Do YOU understand what Elijah had available to Him? He could hear from and know the revealed will of the one eternal creator, the God and father of all. He could simply read the scrolls of Moses and know what to do and what not to do. He could simply cry out to Jehovah God in prayer and hear from on high the answer to whatever dilemma he was in. He could simply obey. You can simply obey. Tell me what you KNOW of the scriptures that God has made so clearly and plainly recorded for us in these sixty six books. Tell me how you stumble and falter when you walk each day of your lives trying to do them. Tell me of what great things the Lord of glory has done through you and to you when you have obeyed.

Tell me how He has spoken to you through this written word when you failed. Tell me how He forgave you and picked you back up and used you again and again and again. It never mattered what you did the day before, the year before, nothing in the past mattered except that you obeyed. You obeyed then and you can obey now. Elijah choose to obey and believe God for deliverance from the idolatry his people had fallen into. Elijah chose to believe and obey and so must you. Believe Him for salvation; that He saw the sin of all men, including those in the future you would commit. Believe that He came to earth as a baby in a manger, that He was crucified in your place on the cross according to the scriptures. Believe that He rose from the dead on the third day according to the prophecy of the scriptures. Believe that if you ask Him to forgive you and save you from the wrath to come that He will do it. Then ask Him; Right now. If you have never asked Him to forgive you and save you and come into your life then ask Him right now. If you have already asked and things have not been like they should be, then ask for the restoration you know He desires to give you. Lord forgive me; Right now. Lord restore me and use me again, despite all I have done against you and your word. So Now; Now obey Him. Walk in His power according to His word. Proclaim what great things God has done for you.

1Samuel 12:24 Only fear the LORD, and serve him in truth with all your heart: for consider how great things he hath done for you.

Psalm 126:2 Then was our mouth filled with laughter, and our tongue with singing: then said they among the heathen, The LORD hath done great things for them.

Joel 2:21 Fear not, O land; be glad and rejoice: for the LORD will do great things.

Luke 8:39 Return to your own house, and show how great things God hath done unto thee. And he went his way, and published throughout the whole city how great things Jesus had done unto him.

1 Chronicles 29:10 Wherefore David blessed the LORD before all the congregation: and David said, Blessed be thou, LORD God ofIsrael our father, for ever and ever. :11 Yours, O LORD, is the greatness, and the power, and the glory, and the victory, and the majesty: for all that is in the heaven and in the earth is Yours; Yours is the kingdom, O LORD, and thou art exalted as head above all. :12 Both riches and honor come of thee, and You reign over all; and in Your hand is power and might; and in Your hand it is to make great, and to give strength unto all. :13 Now therefore, our God, we thank thee, and praise thy glorious name.
