It’s Monday. It is not Christmas, New Year’s Day, something special or the absolute best day of your life. It’s Monday, and just like every other day of your life you have options. You are going to attempt to accomplish some things which will not turn out so well. You will amaze and astound some folks and maybe even yourself at others. There is only one you. All that you do is all that is you. Some will live in the future, some in the past. Others will live in the present hoping for something other than what they have. You will love Him with all of your heart and mind and soul or not. He will be “your everything” or mean nothing at all to you. You will proclaim Him or deny that you ever knew Him. “Him” could be your goldfish, your cat, dog, boyfriend, husband, Father or child. Or even a “her”. Of the billions of souls on this planet only a few millions have access to high speed internet. Of the Millions which are so blessed, only a portion will open their face book page today. Okay, it may be a healthy portion. Still, it is only a portion. And of those few millions or hundreds of thousands, only a very, very few will read this Monday thought.
On this ordinary Monday it may be difficult to see and accept the tremendous impact which may result from this day, this time, or this moment. You will draw in your breath, know the comfort or agony of your senses, and you will realize that you are alive. It is Monday. It is the second day of the week.
Every week has a Monday. (Some weeks feel like they have more than one.) It is not always the best day of that week, but it may be occasionally. The immense power of having a thinking mind, a beating heart, a feeling soul, can only be enhanced by knowing the One who made you to be so blessed. Even those who do not have the same understanding of Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, even they understand there is a power, a force, an intelligence beyond themselves who has made this day, this Monday, possible. Whether they attribute their calamities and blessings to ancestral influences or Angels moving at the behest of a benevolent deity, there is for most people at least an internal recognition.
So all of that and five bucks will get you a cup of burnt coffee at most coffee shops. The value in this “Announcement of Monday” is not some earth shattering cosmic event. It is simply that you get another one. You may do with it as you please. Within the limitations of the laws and constraints around you, the choices are endless. You can indulge in a feisty movie, enjoy a fabulous feast, be favored with exciting companionship and a seemingly unending variety of other possibilities. You can also, if you so choose, consider who you really are and what your purpose in this life on this planet are.
One late fall Monday night in 1978, I made a choice. I was angry at myself, the circumstances I had created, the mess I felt was there and the people I was hurting. So on that Monday night in St. Petersburg Florida, I looked up at the clouds and stars above me and practically shouted “God, if you are really real, show me and I will believe you”. I walked some more. I calmed down. I walked back home and tried to make the best of my apology. I did not know that my fist shaking in the face of God tirade had placed a series of events into motion which would alter my understanding of life as I knew it forever.
So let me cut to the chase. Six months later I bowed my head while driving my little blue Chevy Vega on Rattle Snake Road in MacDill Air Force Base near Tampa Florida and asked Jesus to forgive me and save my soul from the hell I knew I deserved. It was a Monday night for me. A Monday that started what has now been a thirty six year journey of love and patience on His part. It has also been a journey of spurts and flops at times on my part. Mondays can be hard days. I was having a really bad Monday and Jesus took it away from me to make it a Happy Happy day. It wasn’t then but it sure is now.
Since you have read this far let me say thank you. Thank You for caring about your Monday. Thank You for allowing the Spirit of the Loving God of Creation to guide you this far. Here is your Monday. This one is just for you.
So that you too may consider if He is really real. To ask Him what He would have you to do. To simply say “Hey, if you are real, thanks for Monday. Now where do we go from here?” You can still have that great company, enjoy a bodacious dinner and even catch a tremendous movie. You have every choice before you because He likes choices. He wants you to choose Him. He says so in that book He wrote, The Holy Bible. He told His prophets to write this: “I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you, life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both you and your children may live”. He is speaking of eternal life with Him or being forever separated from His presence in the Lake which burns with fire and brimstone.
Sunday is now my favorite day of the week. I rest, I worship, I tell others of His love and how He changed me. I enjoy good company and often terrific meals on Sundays. But I never forget what started out on a Monday night many years ago when an angry young man ignorantly threatened the most powerful being in the universe. I wasn’t squashed out of existence or any other horrible consequence. He patiently and lovingly saw my need and sent His servants to tend to my wounds. Through their hearts and lives, He brought me to Himself. Monday is not my favorite day but I sure do like remembering that one.
