I’m wondering today if Jonah had any friends. Folks he was close to and who thought kindly of Him. Did he know people who wouldn’t mind if he just showed up at their door. Perhaps he knew some folks who enjoyed his company and would seek him out for conversation and fellowship. I wonder what kind of family he had, if maybe he was close enough to his family to call some of them friends. Maybe some of his friends would have been thought close enough to be called family. Travelling Through
As I listen to people talk about the sickness and death and other tragedies they are going through, I get the sense they were expecting more out of life. It seems like they feel they weren’t given their fair share of the good stuff. It makes me want to ask “who ever promised 99 years of trouble free bliss?”
Special Day
It came and it went as so many before. Great claims were made by those who knew the score. Yet it was not the last, there would be an encore. This day would be marked as special in some ways. There would be talks about how to make the special stay. Yet that it was special was not everyone’s say. It was hotter than usual on some weather maps. The singing might be special like raps. But where it was colder they brought better wraps. I don’t think the special is in what you do. No the special is not the what but the who. Special can be so even if it’s not true. For special is measured only by your eyes. Sometimes special is supported by lies. Some are never special no matter how many tries. Continue reading
Mysteries
Jonah 2:1 says “Then Jonah prayed unto the LORD his God out of the fish’s belly”. Mysteries are not uncommon in the Bible. God has clearly placed them there for our exercise. He says in Deuteronomy 29:29 “The secret things belong unto the LORD our God: but those things which are revealed belong unto us and to our children for ever, that we may do all the words of this law. “ Yet some of those secrets He fully intends for us to discover. Proverbs 25:2 says “It is the glory of God to conceal a thing: but the honor of kings is to search out a matter”. So it is with a certain measure of challenge He opens His word to us. Continue reading
