Disasters And Despair

In Nineteen Eighty Eight a popular booklet was flying off the shelves in bookstores around the world. Eighty-Eight Reasons Why The Rapture Will Happen In Nineteen Eighty-Eight brought a renewed study of all things apocalyptic. Countless hours of research and study were applied to the premise of the book. Hundreds of thousands of exegetical and emotional sermons were preached both for and against the text. Careers were launched over this subject. Homes were sold, businesses closed and bank accounts were filled with the profits from this proliferation. No Rapture occurred. No great disaster. Your Thoughts

In the days and nights which followed, I gave it less and less thought
For though it seemed a noble muse, it seemed also to be for naught
The brilliance of the that moment faded, by each passing hour
And what was then a master stroke, became a thing of lesser power

Fervent is the passionate rush, when but one side is seen
Yet considered with the others, more is found of what it means
Pure it was when it alone, beckoned my heart to follow
Then as others crept in to question, it seemed so hard to swallow

Still my heart, wait quietly my soul, let each question stand its ground
For in the depths of our fertile minds, lies and truths are found
So for the time left to us, we’ll wonder as we wander
If where we’re headed leads us to, the thoughts that we did ponder

It is very much like many “Christian” places or people. There are everywhere organizations which profess to be be Christian in origin or values. Yet many of them are Christian in name only. Does Prayer Make Ya Think?

Since this is a “Made Ya Think” page, it is appropriate to address one of the often posed questions by folks who think about thinking, which is “What about praying?” Should we pray? To whom should we pray? What should we pray for? What do we really expect the outcome of our prayer to be? Some will suggest a prayer experience which includes stop, close your eyes, imagine a really big God sitting on a really big throne in a really far away Heaven waiting to hear from you. They will say this type of prayer is most important. Continue reading
