Is it a Piece or A Peace?

In Luke chapter fifteen, verses eight through ten, Jesus relates a parable of a woman who has a measure of wealth which we may assume is visible to others. Yet when she loses control of one portion of her wealth, she does not remain satisfied that she still has ninety percent of what she had before. She immediately seeks to recover that which is lost. In these few short versus Jesus teaches much more than a desire for worldly possessions. It is not merely a worthy piece of silver but a peace of being worthy.

What woman having ten pieces of silver, if she lose one piece, doth not light a candle, and sweep the house, and seek diligently till she find it? And how does that brightly lit evergreen tree with all the gifts underneath it have anything to do with all that mess? Continue reading

Choose an occupation, an activity, a philosophy which can be admired and there are those who are acknowledged as best. We use the word champion. We give titles to indicate our recognition of accomplishment. Continue reading

Important Christmas Gifts

It was important enough to search every store.
No care was given for the price tag it bore.
Oh, to see the look in their eyes made your heart soar.
As they tore off the wrappings from the night before.

Then set it aside as the next gift was opened that morn,
The day we claim as special because He was born.
We had our candlelight service with Gabriel’s horn,
And sang of His night before the trees we adorn.
