Fail or Not?

I’m starting my second cup of coffee. I have checked my emails, glanced at facebook, linkedin requests and flipped through the daily inspirational thoughts. I am thinking about a recent post I put on Ripples (www.Ripples-Book.tk). Please excuse the gratuitous plug. I have measured myself and do not like what the scale has told. The bathroom scale, my diabetes tester, the mirror of the scriptures and the silence from heaven all seem to say the same thing; fail. Not so much of a huge fail, but more of a systemic, what were you thinking fail. Almost as if I had gone into my old college classroom to take a test and realized I had prepared for math instead of history. Now I am looking at my paper at 6 AM and thinking “This is NOT going to turn out well”. Continue reading

Fail

I Feel like I Fail. Much more than I would like; much more than I would like to admit. Failure is based upon our perception of success. Running a mile and a half in fifteen minutes would be a success if you were taking a standard United States Air Force fitness test a few years ago. It would have been a dismal failure if you happened to be in the US Army. The difference is perception and expectation. The Army’s expectation is much faster than that of the Air Force and because of that the perception of success is different. Continue reading

Sin when it is brought forth

When I was a young man others often took advantage of my being naive. There was that old trick where they would point down at my feet and say “your shoe is untied”. Or “there is a bug on your pants”. Invariably I would look down and they would quickly lift their finger to flip my nose. This was followed by laughter and the all too familiar “Made ya look!” It was sometimes amusing but often embarrassing and even annoying to be the brunt of their jokes. So our natural choice was to attempt the same thing on others. If someone else was the object of the joke then no one would be laughing at me. It was of course not normally possible to successfully trick older, more experienced people, but the younger ones were easier. They had not yet been embarrassed enough to be on guard for such shenanigans. Our “Ha ha, made ya look” did not take away any of the sting of our own humiliation but it did at least focus attention on the next victim and not us. Continue reading
