SMHG John
That’s All You Get
What if God says “No. That’s all you get”? You’ve done your all and now it’s time to quit.
Your laughs and cries, your joys and sorrows; they’re all done, there are no more tomorrows.
I know I’ve promised some folks more, like they’d have seventy or eighty years in store
But some I’ve decided it’s better to change, their number of their days to a different range
The wicked, the good, the evil, the blessed, all will come one day to their last and rest
At the end of the days of human experiences, opening new avenues for spiritual senses
From the beginning, the garden, and the tree, I intended each one to spend eternity with me
Yet some have made of my provisions and ways; a mockery and laughingstock all of their days
The rewards that follow are the result of this One, What in this world did you do with the Son
It’s not that the Lord is in a hurry with you, but He has a plan for your good so get a clue
The all that you’ve done is surely enough; someone else will have to handle the undone stuff
For a wisp and a vapor are all this life is, Whether you’re quite simple or a hot Bible whiz
Those left behind may sorrow just a bit, then remembering your smile and clever wit
Enjoy the memories of those times and rejoice; longing for the sound of that now stilled voice
But what if it were just a silly dream, And you still had many days to paddle your stream
Would they be spent in frivolous waste or with purposeful intent and a careful haste
Think of that day when you thought it was over, and that you’d soon be six feet under the clover
The regrets you felt for holding your tongue not just in old age but when you were young
Yet there’s still time to blossom and flower by leaning solely on the mighty strong tower
So when you hear God say “that’s all you get”, there’ll be nothing undone not even one little bit.
