This New Year

Quietly wake and gaze on the snow
Another year gone, where did it go
Sweet memories making my heart glow
Bitter ones are wrapped up in such woe

Regrets and sorrows are so few
They are yesterdays which I can’t undo
Forgiveness and apologies offer a clue
Of how to let love make all things new

Words fall short of what’s in my heart
A new day, a new year, perhaps a new start
As time moves on I pray God will impart
Wisdom to live this next year like folk art

That’s plainness and beauty painted in truth
Not crumbled by age nor wasted in youth
Like superman stepping from a phone booth
Having God’s Spirit as your internal sleuth

The snow is still there, sun’s beginning to rise
The glistening field sparkling in my eyes
Like diamonds sent from Him who is all wise
Just knowing Jesus is my highest prize

This New Year, may be more of the same
Days to be relished with marvel and acclaim
So let the snow fall, I don’t want life tame
This year my light is His burning flame
