Inaugurating a new Website or Blog requires serious consideration to its purpose and impact. My desire is that you, as you read and respond, might participate in creating a value greater than I alone could have dreamed possible.
Worthy Words indicate that the time, energy, cost, and effort is acceptable for the profit derived from the writings and readings which happen. If that sounds a little too complicated, let me put it this way: the reading of what is written here is not a total waste of time. That is the purpose of declaring these pages as “Worthy-Words”. When someone goes through an ordeal or event that is trying or difficult, we often ask “Was it worth it?” “Did the benefit outweigh the cost?” Or “Did you get your monies worth?” We evaluate all things by the cost expended to obtain these commodities. We often find ourselves in conversations, complaining about the rising costs of food, entertainment or other goods and services. I am prone to remind others that it does not tell us the increasing value of the item but rather the diminishing value of our currency.
When I read my first Edgar Rice Burroughs novel as a young elementary school boy, I was sorry as I finished the last page. I had been so mesmerized by the story that I did not realize I had read it start to finish in one sitting. Fortunately he was a serial writer and for just fifty hard earned cents I could get the next one. Within a couple of years I had several rows of those novels lining the shelf of my bedroom bookcase. Mom or dad probably bought most of them for me. Other family members enjoyed them as well but for me it was a little different. I treasured the stories, the books, the words on every page strung into sentences conveying the imaginative thoughts of places far beyond my reach. At the time it seemed no cost could be considered to great for the privilege granted by these treasures.
The greatest cost I have ever known is one which will also probably earn me the greatest arguments as to its validity or reality. No, I’m not referring to the unicorn, or Bigfoot, or aliens from another planet. I am speaking of the foreknowledge and plan of God our creator to send His only Son to earth as a man to live a perfect sinless life, die on the cross of Calvary in my place and rise again three days later to live again eternally. My audience may have just gotten a bit smaller as those who have not believed may not be willing to be told this fairy tale (as they see it) is the reality by which my life is governed. This truth is worth any cost I may ever be required to pay, for aside from this knowledge my life is without meaning or purpose.
Treasures are much more than daily commodities. In a desert place water is a treasure. In a place where food spoils due to a lack of refrigeration, salt is a treasure. To someone in an extremely frigid climate layers of clothing or a single small ember of fire might be a treasure. For those who believe the truth of the previous paragraph, the Holy Bible is a treasure beyond measure. For in it are the worthy words, not only of learned and experienced men and women but of God Himself. For therein are the claims of Jesus declaring Himself to be the very God of creation and the only savior of mankind. Though some may trash its contents as error ridden contradictory folklore, many critics who have engaged in serious contemplation of its reasoning have become themselves true believers.
Worthy words were transmitted from a Holy Sovereign God through the spiritual hearts and minds of chosen men to convey the treasures which cannot be purchased with all earthly wealth. Worthy is the Lamb who was slain for our transgressions. Worthy is the worship of He who created and judged and restored His own chosen people. At the end of a massive horrible conflict David recorded a song in second Samuel chapter twenty two (2Samuel 22:4) which is the first mention of a treasure I hold dear. “I will call upon the LORD (Jehovah), who is WORTHY to be praised. Those worthy words establish a heart cry and a banner of love for every believer throughout all of time on this earth.
It is my fervent desire and hope that those true believers will find great comfort and true encouragement in the pages of these Worthy-Words. Further I desire that those who only casually observe or adhere to the tenets which bind my life to His service might be made to think seriously about what is true treasure and what is just an expense. Finally, for those who would reject that which I avow, I wish you to become an active participant in those things which are found here and thereby contribute to its value as a whole. I fully expect each page, each comment, each thought to be Worthy-Words in the treasure chest of our most valued possessions. I pray you will find it “worth it all”.
Please return to WWW.Worthy-Words.org often and leave your worthy words as well.
