The Light

And then, as he continued gazing toward the east, the light began to overcome the darkness. It was not physically but mentally and spiritually. After what seemed to be a long Hiatus, he had returned. The grass smelled the same, the breeze was gentle and the dawn was excitingly calm. As it should be, periods of contemplation are followed by revelation and confirmation. When The Spirit Came

Much is said and believed concerning the gift which Jesus called in John 14:16 “another comforter”. Much of that which is said and believed may be more elaboration of Scripture than exposition. If you ask a thousand people when the Holy Spirit first indwelt men, of the many who do not answer “I do not know”, a very high percentage will attest to the day of Pentecost detailed in Acts chapter two. Ten Days

It has been ten days since I experienced the devastation of a debilitating medical condition, a stroke. Ten days since the miraculous intervention by medical science which rendered the impact of that stroke void. Ten days to consider what might have been. Ten days to marvel at the gift of life and the joy of appreciating complete restoration. Ten days to be grateful, to give thanks, to wonder what’s next. And in ten days I wonder if I have really gotten any of it at all. Continue reading

My Stroke

More than amazing. More than marvelous. That is how good His grace has been to me. I am a Pastor and a man of faith. So, that will come out some. On Friday night at eight PM we had just finished a late supper and I was standing in my gutted downstairs bathroom admiring my son’s craftsmanship as he explained what he was doing. My vision suddenly went blurry and I had an instant painful headache which subsided to a dull roar. I walked the twenty feet back to the kitchen table with a little bit of a stumble that my wife picked up on right away. As I looked at the computer screen it become quickly obvious that I couldn’t see clearly and could not fully comprehend what I saw. In frustration, I attempted to read aloud and found myself unable to speak the same words as what was on the screen nor did I understand what the words meant. I complained to my wife and she was only partially able to understand what I said or what I meant. Continue reading
