Ten Becauses

Exodus 20:17 Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor’s house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbor’s wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbor’s.(10) Because at the root of all sin is the covetousness which is pride. Satan is the father of that lie which says “I will”. I will have what I want when I want without regard for what the Lord wants for me. Coveting is Lusting. Lust is not in the love of God but is the perversion of the devil. It demands more than is right and sets the whole of man at odds with his Creator.

Exodus 20:16 Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor.(8) Because there is nothing which can be hidden from my eyes. I see all truth. You are as great as I have intended. Nothing can restrain you from being the glory I have desired for you.  A lie says that you covet to be something other than I have made you. It says you do not wish your neighbor to be what I have desired them to be. Lying about your neighbor expresses your lust for that which I have given them. It is spiritual adultery which says you doubt the one true living Lord.

Exodus 20:15 Thou shalt not steal.(9) Because I have promised to supply all your needs so that while you lean on my understanding and acknowledge me you continually see the fulfillment of your every desire which I have put in your heart. You need nothing I have not provided. If you have trusted me with your eternal soul how is it that you cannot trust that I will provide every earthly possession you need? Stealing shows you are lying about your trust in me.

Exodus 20:14 Thou shalt not commit adultery.(7) Because I have set a law that one man shall be married to one woman as a testimony to the relationship my son shall have with His bride. There shall never be any circumstance, event nor issue which shall separate them for all eternity. Having intimacy outside of the sanctity of the sacred marriage vows violates my purpose and plan for life. Doing so kills treasures intended for heaven which do not belong to you.

Exodus 20:13 Thou shalt not kill.(6) Because life is precious. The aged, the mature, the youth, the newborn and the unborn alike are mine. I have given them my gift of life. I am not pleased when the gift which I alone can bestow is ripped from my creation without the authority which I alone can give. I alone hold the keys to death and hell. To usurp my power is to commit spiritual adultery and grieves my spirit. I will avenge each soul.

Exodus 20:12 Honor thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God gives thee.(5) Because I am a father, for “I AM” THE Father, I give this as the one word with a great promise.  A father and a mother who are wholly obedient to all I proclaim are worthy of the honor you show them in your proper reverence. Yet when they stray and do not seem worthy, honor them still for my words sake. For by your obedience and submission you demonstrate the truth and power of my word. Your long and faithful life may be the evidence they need to repent and return unto me. A rebellious attitude kills any chance for restoration.

Exodus 20:8 Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.(4) Because It is a special time for you to draw near to me; a time to show that you can trust me to provide seven days provisions when you work only six. It is on this day beside all the other evidence that you give, that the unbelieving will see you faithful devotion to me and may follow your testimony into the light of the truth. In this manner you honor me.

Exodus 20:9-11 Six days shalt thou labor, and do all thy work: 10 But the seventh day is the Sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: 11 For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day, and hallowed it.

Because I said so, that’s why.

Exodus 20:7 Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that takes his name in vain.(3) Because my name is great. Every word that proceeds from my mouth is true. To use my name flippantly or as if does not carry great weight is to diminish me as if I were a wooden idol.  All that is written in my book, the Holy Bible, recorded by my prophets and faithful servants is completely without error or need to be questioned. There is a great and dreadful price to be paid for those who would think to add to it or take away from it. Use my Sabbath to know this truth. I am the Word.

Exodus 20:4 Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: (2) Because the only image that can come close to being the true likeness of me is you. When you are walking in my Power, filled with my Spirit and totally dependent on me then you are indeed the man, male and female, that I created in my likeness. You cannot imagine the greatness of my visage in such a way to bring glory to me except that you obey this word. It is vain to think otherwise.

Exodus 20:5-6 Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me; 6 And showing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments.

Exodus 20:3 Thou shalt have no other gods before me.(1) Because I will allow no imitation, no pretender, no “wanna be” to be able to deceive you in any fashion if you will hear only my voice and obey it. My sheep hear my voice and I know them. Since there is no other god, for I know not any, do not look for one; not in your mirror, not your imagination nor in your fear. Such vanity seeks to exalt the created above the creator. And when you have refrained from all such foolishness and obeyed fully, then you shall eagerly and cheerfully proclaim “I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvelous are thy works; and that my soul knows right well.” Psalm 139:14
