Right or Wrong?

Is there such a thing as Right and Wrong?

If there is, then Who decides which is which? If anything is okay then there is no God. God’s Word and every interpretation of it says He decides Right and Wrong. If it is your choice or interpretation which decides whether a thing is right or wrong then there is no God. This is the greatest reason for rejecting theological creation. All other theories are based on the premise that if there is a God then we are accountable to Him for right and wrong. Therefore the big bang, evolution, alien races and a myriad of other human inventions are in direct conflict with the most sold book in the history of man. But beyond creation, what are our choices based on?

If anything can be always wrong then it is a moral imperative and must have an unchangeable basis for existing. Let me be totally gross for the sake of illustration. No, not that gross, you thought of that not me. Is it ever wrong to take someone’s life? Is everyone entitled to do whatever they desire regardless of the impact on others and face not retribution or consequences?

You can go down a long list of what ifs. So let me get fairly low. Would you stop someone from cutting the throat of a ten month old child in a public park after sexually abusing that child? Why would you? Or why not? If it is ever wrong, what do you base that on? Maybe your opinion, your like or dislike for the color of the skin of the child or the monster, but surely based on some consistent source.

Is it right or wrong? Based on what? How about shooting a homeless vagrant? Or stopping a gang member from shooting your children? Or stealing a candy bar or perhaps a new pickup truck? Where is the moral imperative that says you can instruct your parents? Or that adultery or incest or theft or plagiarism, or lying or any other right or wrong choice. If it is based on the law of the land then what are they based on? If based on community preference then what about when community changes? And if you choose a right or wrong stance then who ultimately decides when someone else chooses differently?

Maybe you do not want to consider such weighty thoughts. Maybe enough leeway is made for you to make your own rule set. Maybe others will accept you and your choice even though they are not the choices they make for themselves. Then what? Well, perhaps you are satisfied with what is. Perhaps you live a long and happy life and then you die. What then? The mean or nice things people write or say about you do not matter to you then. The way they follow your last will and testament or not will not bother you in the least. There are only a very few scenarios that answer the “What Then?”

First there is nothing. You die, your life ends, your heart stops, you cease to breathe and your brain is empty. There is no soul which is conscience of an afterlife. It is just the end. Or perhaps you move on to a new existence with similar or even greatly different life parameters. Everything is. It just is. And you go through another life. Or perhaps eventually you are reincarnated to trudge through this world again. Or the scariest proposition for most people. What if there IS a God and you are not Him? What if the Bible is true and His standards of right and wrong apply? What if He determines your future existence based upon His measuring stick? What if it matters then as to what we used as the basis for our choices of right and wrong?

Well you won’t have to worry about that because you don’t believe in Him. You have chosen your concepts of right and wrong and creation and afterlife without having to depend upon His book. There is no need for you to concern yourself with those kinds of fables because you are right. What could possibly go wrong? It is important to consider that you can have everything you want the way you want it when you want it that way IF you are your own God. And before you declare there is no such thing as a god, remember even Satan believes and trembles.

What is wrong, is what is contrary, to what is right. Dark is opposed to light but only exists in the absence of light. Heat is opposed to cold but cold only exist in the absence of heat. Lies are not possible if there is no truth to be opposed to. If all are rich there is no poor. If all are poor there is no rich. Evil is all too prevalent in our existence but evil can only exist in the absence of good. God is good. He is love. He is light, He is truth. He declares it to be so. To be contrary to Him or what He says is to transgress His law, to be in sin, to be wrong. He is the basis for right. What is yours? Is there such a thing as Right and Wrong? If there is and it is not based upon God, What is it?
