The Sun Has Risen

The Sun rose early. Its bright rays bringing life and light to what had been a darkened world. The mysteries which had been hidden by the long night were once again revealed. What might have been thought to be lurking dangers now appeared as innocent as the beautiful green trees and grass. The fear and darkness is displaced by the unrelenting, overpowering, unstoppable, brilliant light. The vigilance of the watchers in the night is rewarded by the coming light.

Although a peace and calm comes over those who were charged with warning of the dangers in the night, a stirring is seen in others. It was the day. It was the time to labor. It would be hours before the night would threaten to return, the night in which no man could work. In the day was the time to plant and plow and put effort to the plans and dreams which had prompted their preparations.

Every day the Sun rises. Some days hidden from direct view by pretentious clouds without the promise of life giving rain. Sometimes it is obscured by massive powerful storms threatening to wash away what was before and prepare the earth for new purpose. Yet regardless of what circumstances are hidden by the darkness, the Sun rises. It has an appointed time. It is promised. Great and powerful galactic forces beyond our control are in place. They work continuously to fuel the cycle and draw near to this moment. The sun will arise. There has never been a day when the Sun has not risen.

It is received with great joy by those who work in the day. Those who work in the night scurry back for shelter to await the coming night when their deeds are perpetrated. They slink away in shame and sneer over their shoulder at the deliverance which is come upon their labors. As long as there is good in the world there is prey for their evil.

The sorrow and havoc they wreck upon both unsuspecting and knowledgeable souls only increases the prayers for deliverance. They have had their hour, their night of chaos. Now the Sun is risen and peace beyond human understanding floods all the realm of the well-lit earth. It is finally morning and joy comes in the morning.

We live in a fallen, sin darkened world. Yet in all of the evil and perversion and injustice there is a promise of deliverance. There come every morning the proof of the covenant which the almighty creator of the universe declared many lifetimes ago. When making His boast (can God boast??), when declaring His love relationship with His chosen people, Israel, Jehovah God said if you can stop the sun from appearing every morning, then and only then will I end my relationship with Israel.

Think of the consequences of that act. If God removed His love and protection from His people, they would be left naked and alone and defenseless against the cruelest vengeance the world would be able to hurl. They would have no champion, no nourishment, no revelation of right and wrong.

If that sun were not to rise, the world would quickly cool to an unlivable state. The air would cool, eventually into a liquid, the air breathers would probably succumb to a lack of heat before their lungs gave out. Imagine being in permanent blackness without anything other than the distant twinkling of stars reminding you of the loss you face and the one you have forsaken. Imagine the agony of being without the love and warmth and protection of Jesus while staring death and hell in the face. Imagine knowing you had the universe’s greatest treasure and now it is ripped from you. You remain hopeless, fearful and condemned to an eternity of separation from your creator.

Stop imagining. Return to believing the truth. Open the gift your Lord has bestowed upon you, your eyes. Admire in the light of His promise, the beauty of His creation. Feel the difference of the warmth of the morning sun as it saps the dark and coolness of night. Marvel as He restores the day and fades the night. Each day ends in the softening glow of the western sky. Each night we huddle and rest and look forward with great expectation. Joy comes in the morning. Every morning the sun rises. Every morning His promise is repeated. Every morning His invitation is for you to become one of His chosen people. Every morning birds sing to announce the coming light. It is not yet evident when their song begins but they know it is coming.

Most mornings I wake before the sun is risen. It is my desire to see His promise fulfilled. If the clouds are absent, I stare into the star studded sky and thank Him for being. I thank Him for choosing to bestow His love on me. I thank Him for giving me the understanding of His word. I thank Him for so many more things than this page can hold. In the first chapter of the Bible God put the sun, moon and stars in the heavens for signs and for seasons; for light upon the earth and for days and years. Everything He has done has had purpose. Even though we as mere humans may not fully comprehend His design and purposes, we can by faith in Him trust that it is all for our good.

Did the sun rise in your world today? He promised it would. Did the days pass? Did the year begin and then pass into the next? It is the fulfillment of His design, His purpose and His promise. He also promised that if you would believe that He came to earth as Jesus and died in your place, He would save you from the wrath of His judgement. You were in darkness but are now come into the glorious light of His salvation. Each day the Sun reminds us to worship the Son of God who loved us so much that He left the glories and splendor of Heaven so He might enjoy eternity with us. Each sunrise reminds us that He loves us more than we love the pleasures of our sins. He calls upon us to repent and believe.

Soon it will be morning again. Soon the joy we anticipate will be real. Soon the fulfillment of His promise will drive away every shadow or fear. Soon that which will be real will overcome every doubt. Do you believe His truth? I know you do. Let the Son of God arise in your heart. Worship Him in gratitude and humility. He is the great King. His desire is for you. Ask Him to deliver you. He will. It is His promise. And once again the Sun has risen.
