The things that I don’t hear

Seems my hearing has faded
The sounds of life are dulled
The rippling streams I’ve waded
A distant memory so cold
There used to be a crispness
In every sound I heard
now I strain to even guess
how to put the sound in words

The things that I don’t hear
Pass me by without a care at all
Yet my joy overcomes all fear
For I have listened to His call

Age is winning day by day
Dying proclaims its victory
Time is bound to have its way
Life reveals eternal mystery
He called unto me in His time
I heard through the ears He gave
His peace His promise all sublime
I heard He is mighty to save

The things that I don’t hear
Pass me by without a care at all
Yet my joy overcomes all fear
For I have listened to His call

There is an endless stream
This world offers for listening ears
Built upon false hopes and dreams
Ending in empty pain and tears
Those words and sounds I don’t hear
Would trap me in a deceitful shell
For my ears are tuned to Heaven so near
Finding no place for sounds of hell

The things that I don’t hear
Pass me by without a care at all
Yet my joy overcomes all fear
For I have listened to His call
