When Life Ends

Got nothing profound to say Lord
Perhaps we’re stunned, devastated and distraught
Hurting for those who have had life ripped from them
Totally unable to comprehend their sadness
Wondering if the peace of God really does surpass understanding
Or if the mournful cry is all they know

You are the only hope, the keeper of sanity, the resurrection and the life
You are the one they wake up with
We are never closer to you than when normal is torn from our lives
And never do we feel farther away
Hopes, dreams, loves, future; all undone, all ended
Recovery is impossible, replacement unthinkable, reasoning has ceased
Restoration is the need, from the Most High God
David said “I shall go to him, but he shall not return to me”

Shall the thing made say to the maker “why have You made me so?”
Yes, we will. In sorrow and grief and agony, we will.
Knowing that this is but a momentary terror which is swallowed up in victory
Each bears their burden. Some feel it is more than can be carried.
That is when You carry us. Lord, even now, right now, carry them.
