You are you. Be The You

You are who you are. It seems like quite a simple thing to say. Adam and Eve could easily understand their place and role in God’s creation. They were planned, designed and created as the ultimate caretakers of God’s Eden. They must have been extremely content to know and fulfill their purpose. No other creature could be them. The cattle could not walk on two legs. Whales could not lift delicate flowers with tender hands. Oceans could not harvest the fruits of the garden. Each was content to be all they were created to be. Until the thought was introduced, “Am I meant to be more or something else?” Obediently being what you are designed to be brings glory to the creator. Rejecting your purpose brings shame and consequences.

So let’s play “what if”. What if you think you would be better as a horse? A talking horse of course. Or how about a car? One with opinions and personality and the choice to drive on water or travel through the air with ease? Which signs would you obey? A person obeys pedestrian laws while a car has speed limits and stop signs and must use turn signals, have brake lights and the list goes on. What fuel would you need? Using gasoline would end your journey abruptly as your flesh responded to ingesting it. If you used human fuel like meat and vegetables would you really think you are a car? What maintenance would you attempt, a flu shot or an oil change? Would you have tires or shoes? Would you get a good wax job or a manicure? Would you honk or holler “Get out of my way”? How about a car wash or a shower? Would your warranty be valid for one hundred thousand miles or would you have three score and ten? Would your final resting place be the junk yard or a home in heaven?

As a car I could be a leader of other cars. Perhaps I could influence friends and even strangers to act like cars. If I was successful maybe I could carry shopping purchases and other burdens into peoples homes. I might bring guests over to their homes and maybe even get little windshield wipers for my glasses. I wouldn’t have to allow others to treat me as if I was bound to the role I was born into. I could get a title and be special in my own eyes. Because I would decide what I want to be. I could choose. I could declare “I am meant to be more or something else”. And the whole world would look upon me like I had going utterly stark raving mad. I might be locked up as a lunatic. For everyone knows a human cannot be a car and a car is not a living thinking organism.

No matter how much I might want to think of myself as something else, I am what I am and whose I am. A man is not a house or a chicken or a woman just because they fancy themselves to be so. He might glue feathers to his arms and peck at the ground for worms and bugs but he will never lay an egg. A woman cannot become a ship or a man or a car. She might imitate and mimic functions and roles. She might have surgeries and change outward appearances but that will not change what she was born to be. Each is designed to be what they are. A lemon cannot become an apple pie. It has a distinct design and flavor.

God makes no mistakes nor is He confused about the uses and outcome of His creation. Satan on the other hand is so confused that he wants to be what he is not. And he seems to think that if he can confuse enough of God’s creations, he can be seen as right. But he can’t and neither can you. The only way you can be what you are not is to destroy the one who made you so and recreate yourself. You go to church and dress wonderfully and speak great flowing words of the faith but that does not make you a Christian. You can be baptized and memorize the Bible and give great sums of money without being a Christian. You cannot pray loud enough or often enough to become His child without surrendering your heart and will to His. You can say the right words and sing the right songs and teach the right verses and still not have that which makes a Christian a Christian.

There are some things which you can be which you are not if you make the choice to accomplish what is necessary. A scrawny skinny boy can grow up to be a champion weight lifter of athlete if he applies himself to be that. He cannot become a tree. He cannot become anything other than what he has been created to be by his designer and creator. A pretty little girl cannot genetically father children regardless of all their desire to deny God’s purpose for them. Wheels roll and boxes tumble. Wind blows and sun shines. The moon only reflects. What then does it take to be the you whom you are intended to be? What will keep fenders in their place and hoofs on horses and not birds?

It is possible to imitate some aspects of another creation or person but it is impossible to become them without violating the laws and principles of creation which God has established. If it were possible, if by some bending of the truth of God you could be someone or something else, it would mean that God was wrong. In order for God to be wrong He would of necessity cease to be God. It would mean you actually would have power to instruct the Almighty. It would then be true that chaos would reign. It would be as if the pottery vessel being formed in the hands of the potter were able to dispute its own design. A monkey with wings and a flying horse are things of imagination. When imagination begins to be viewed as reality, truth is lost and doubt is cast upon every thought and intent.

A talking horse and a genie in a bottle are fictitious manifestations of fertile minds. To say a thing is so when it is not does not make it so. To paint a picture of a half horse half man does not make it real. To stand in judgment over the decisions of God does not mean you have greater wisdom. It makes you a fool. The Bible is the complete revelation of God’s understanding for His highest creation. It chronicles His relationship with us from the beginning six days to the last times and into eternity. All He intends us to be and do are recorded for our consumption and obedience. Be wise and feast upon the truths of His word and follow His wonderful plan in full obedience and love. Be who you are and whose you are.
