No one understands the wickedness of lies as much as those who have had their goals, aspirations and dreams shattered by the outcome of lies being believed. I seriously doubt there is a person on the earth who has not lied, listened to lies, been lied to or been lied about. Some lie less, some lie more. In order to lie you must be aware of the truth. I have heard it said in jest “I lie. I lie a lot. I am good at it. I like to lie.” All said in ignorance. All accepted with full knowledge that it is not the truth.
People lie because they believe the big lie. The big lie says it is profitable to lie. It claims there is more benefit to lying than there is to telling the truth. Very few people seek to accomplish what will cost them more than they will benefit. Truth is always true and a lie is always not true. Truth strengthens. A lie weakens. A lie enslaves. Truth sets you free.
The original lie is recorded in the holy scripture as “yeah, has God REALLY said…” It is by implication doubt and dispersion. It does not proclaim truth as right. It subtly substitutes itself for what is and makes what is not as though it is. The second lie follows in suite. It was an embellishment. It was adding to the truth for emphasis when the truth was sufficient. It was added because the confidence that the truth was enough was missed. It was that we may not touch it. The third lie was that having what you are denied is best. It said God is wrong. It insisted you are better without the truth.
Every lie which has been told since the garden of Eden follows the same ill conceived reasoning. There is no victory, no excellence, no walking in rightness with a lie. Who is your father? The Bible asserts Satan is the father of lies. His avowed purpose is to undermine and overthrow the Holy Sovereign creator of the universe. His method is to lie about the truth and to get God to agree the lie is truth. The truth is that it is impossible. But Satan isn’t interested in truth. In his twisted mind there is no profit in accepting the truth. A stepping stone to that goal is having God’s children lie. He wins if the lie is believed.
Created in perfection, Lucifer was called anointed, beautiful, and beyond comparison. The most musically gifted of God’s creation, the richest covering of rarest gems, the finest, the brightest illuminant and until iniquity, the wisest. He was the sum of all wisdom. God made Him most pure, most holy, most precious. He had the least need to rebel. He lost the greatest treasure. He invites us to do the same. His name is now called the destroyer. You are His target. Destroying your relationship with you Heavenly Father is His goal. If He cannot separate you from the love of God then he fully desires to besmirch your reputation and diminish your esteem before others.
We lie and do not the truth. We do so in order to have truth be seen as no longer true. We lose the power and presence of God the Holy Spirit when we entertain the lie, the liar, or the presumption that the lie is perhaps true. We lose more than we can ever restore, We lose even our self respect. All of that is before we speak the lie. Some lie less than others. Some lie continually even when they know the consequences of spreading the lie is not better than silencing the lie. It is silenced by not speaking it. There is no other way to stop its spread.
The straightest path may be the most costly. Telling the truth may so offend others that your life may be forfeit. Changing the lie back into the truth would involve major expense. What of all you have would you give to have the lie erased? What if you could reverse it by giving your own life? What is the point of that? You would be eliminated from the benefit of the truth and among the desperately deceived wicked in eternity. Or Who would you like to pay that cost for you?
They who blindly pursue any course, do not consider the imperative of that which is true. No one can keep you from what you are determined to do. At some point in the process you have got to ask yourself. What is Truth? And then you must decide. Can I accept it as it is or am I willing to Lie to myself? Do I want to be God? Or do I wants to belong to God?
Finally there is the last admonition in Scripture; “But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whore-mongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone: which is the second death”. Probably not the group you want to be associated with. “Who is a liar but he that denies that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist, that denies the Father and the Son.” Only receiving Christ as savior can undo the mess you are in. Only acknowledging Him as God can erase the curse of guilt and shame you are under. “That whosoever believes in him should not perish, but have eternal life.”
