Where’s Your Father

My 42 year old son recently sent me this amazing email:
‘I worked 12 hours today and it felt worthless until I got home and heard this story. Today my daughter “J” found a classmate crying at recess because her dad and stepmom are planning to send her far away to a private school. This girl’s mom died from cancer shortly after her birth. The girl was distraught because she said her father was abandoning her.

“J” hugged her and held her and told her, “Don’t worry, you have a Father in Heaven who will always Love you and never abandon you”. The girl’s sob’s subsided, and, at that point, some of “J’s” classmates gathered around this girl with “J” and prayed for her.

Today was the two year anniversary of “J’s” mom’s cancer surgery. Having her mom hear this story from “J” tonight was the finest gift she could have received.’
Just about anyone who has any belief in God will find this heart tugging story an enjoyable lump in the throat moment. So as I am driving to work this morning, I glance at the unending string of headlights in my rear-view mirror. I am thinking, “How many of those people know there is a personal God in Heaven who will never abandon them?”

Then the follow on thought was “Who will be the one to tell them?” Is there someone in each life, in each office, school or restaurant who will be the one to do what “J” did? Would there be someone bold enough to pray for them. Could it be that I myself might?

The “W” Things of God

Worship   is not the act of gathering with others to see how much God can entertain me. Rather it is acknowledging who He is and who you are as the object of His affection. There is an awesome danger when we would be compared to Him. Our reasonable act of worship (Romans 12:1) is the acknowledging of YHWH for being the one true and living Lord and the expression which comes from that intersection of created and creator. When we see Him as “all in all”, we worship. To see ourselves as having power over Him, in any way, is arrogance and devilish.

Deuteronomy 4:19  And lest thou lift up your eyes unto heaven, and when you see the sun, and the moon, and the stars, even all the host of heaven, should be driven to worship them, and serve them, which the LORD thy God hath divided unto all nations under the whole heaven.

Psalm 29:2      Give to Jehovah the glory due to His name; worship Jehovah in the beauty of holiness.

Isaiah 64:6      But we are all as an unclean [thing], and all our righteousnesses [are] as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away. Continue reading

The “V” Things of God

Victorious Living is that manner of living which is above the fray of concern for earthly possessions and lauds. It is in being possessed of God that true joys and satisfactions are found, rather than possessing things.

Numbers 13:30 And Caleb stilled the people before Moses, and said, Let us go up at once, and possess it; for we are well able to overcome it.

Amos 5:14      Seek good, and not evil, that ye may live: and so the LORD, the God of hosts, shall be with you, as ye have spoken.

Zechariah 9:9 Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion; shout, O daughter of Jerusalem; behold, your King comes to you. He is righteous and victorious, meek and riding on an ass, even on a colt, the son of an ass. Continue reading

The “U” Things of God

Unconditional Surrender While the word surrender is not found in the scriptures, it is a principal embodied in the one word: OBEY. We do all we do either in willing obedience or rebellious disobedience. How dare we sing “I Surrender All”, when we are not willing.

Romans 12:1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. Remember Abram & Isaac

Ephesians 4:30 And grieve not the Holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.

Ephesians 6:6 Not with eye service, as men pleasers; but as the servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart; Continue reading
