Continuing Ease of Conflict

Ease, pleasure and contentment are the desire but not the order of the day. Paul asks in Romans seven “O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death? ” Another perspective is the old poem of opposing worlds:

“Two natures beat within my breast,
The one is foul the on is blessed,
The one I love the one I hate,
The one I feed will dominate.”

It is true that choices result in consequences. It is also true that great influence is often brought to bear upon our choices by someone other than ourselves. We are influenced and make choices based upon our perception of the benefit or sacrifice we find agreeable or at least acceptable. Everyone is aware of this. We all choose. Sometimes we miss. Sometimes we lose.

It is the norm for expectations to be expressed and often to be unmet. Our perception of our situation is good or bad based on our expectations. I want to choose to be pleasing. I want to expect good things will come my way. I want to perceive that all things are working in concert for my eternal good. So I want the overwhelming influence in my choices to be the Word of Jesus Christ.

Ease, pleasure and contentment are simply perceptions based upon expectations. And I expect I am good with that.

What do it take to win?

Your divine destiny dwells deep within the design and determined will of the creator of all. Just do it. Be the You which He has purposed and designed you to be. Make no provision for the distractions which are cast before you by the enemy of your soul. Strive for the mastery of the skills and talents He has birthed within you. Regard knowing Him as preeminent and helping others to know Him as life itself.

All the rest is periphery, secondary and if you will allow me to say so, only necessary to endure as far as it advances His preeminence and your opportunity to promote Him. You do not need to be the best, first, strongest, smartest or adored; He is.

Neither do you need to be found apathetic, lethargic, wandering nor gluttonous of treasures and pleasures. If you are to be seen as the hands and feet of Jesus, if you long to enter into the presence of your Lord with Joy, if you will truly esteem others above yourself, then the You which you are is all you need to be.

Just do it.

Poster Child

You are the poster child for something. Knowing what you are seen as by others enables you to be “the You” you were designed to be. All the experiences and influences you have had up to this moment in your life impact “the You” others see you as. To be fair they view you through the filter of the experiences and influences they have had up to this moment. And whether it is fair or not, you are “the You” they see you as. At least to them you are. To you, “the You” you believe yourself to be is often a great deal different than “the You” others perceive. So while your poster may not agree with their poster, you are the poster child for something. Continue reading

Wise Words Win

Wonderfully wise words win wounded warriors. Warriors are everyday people with the weapons given to fight their daily battles. We don’t often think of the daily existence as a fight. The Apostle Paul is recorded as saying the weapons of our warfare are not carnal (fleshly) but spiritual. A modern soldier would need weapons appropriate for their field of conflict. Carpenters and plumbers, police and firemen, teachers and preachers all require unique skills and weapons (tools) to meet the needs of their daily endeavors. Warriors fight the fight of their choosing. They train and test their metal in conflicts large and small so they might know their capabilities. Direction comes from the leaders they serve. For the Christian the battle is lifelong. The victories are in obedience. The defeats are stepping stones and lessons for tomorrows.
